  1. PROJECT PROFILE 

CONSTRUCTION PHOTO ON SITE

The power station is located at the lower reaches of the existing Polpitiya power station on the Maskeliya River. The station is a run-off diversion type power station with 61.8 meters of gross water head, 56.9 meters of effective water head and a total installed capacity of 35 MW consisting of 2 sets of 17.5 MW vertical shaft Francis turbine generator. According to the design, a 19 m high concrete auxiliary weir will be built on the Kehelgamu River about 1 km upstream of the intersection of the Maskeliya River and the Kehelgamu River, and water of the Kehelgamu River will be directed to the Brodland Reservoir through a diversion tunnel about 800 meters long. The main dam is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 24 m and a crest length of 96 m. The diversion tunnel is a horseshoe-shaped section with a diameter of 5.4 ~ 7.1 m and a total length of 3,216 m.

The water diversion tunnel is a non-pressure concrete lining tunnel with a length of 812 m and a shape of 2.7×2.7 m city gate hole. The surge tank is impedance type, the upper bore diameter is 16 m, and the top elevation is 132 m. The length of the pressure steel pipe is 163 m and the diameter of the later section of the lining is 4.6 m. The main powerhouse is semi-underground type with a length of 27.6 m, a width of 16.9 m and a height of 37.68 m. The tailrace will pass through the tributary Ketalan River to the Kailani River. The main transformer field and the switchyard are located on the left side of the main plant, and belong to outdoor switchyard. Power generated by the power plant is transmitted by about a 4 km 132 KV double-loop transmission line.
