Zungeru Hydropower Station, located on the Kaduna River, is in the northeastern part of the Zungeru town of Niger State, Nigeria, with a straight-line distance of 150 km and an actual road distance of 220 km to Nigeria capital, Abuja, and a distance of 22 km to the town Zungeru.

Zonguru Hydropower Station’s main function is for hydroelectric power generation, undertaking peak load, base load and phase modulation operation. The station also has other benefits such as flood control, irrigation, shipping, etc..

The dam is composed of earth-rock dam sections and a RCC gravity dam section. The maximum dam height is 95 meters and the dam length is 2,400 meters. After completion, the normal water level will be 230 m, the total reservoir capacity will be 11.419 billion m3, and the regulation capacity will be 2.667 billion m3. The power plant is a water diversion type ground powerhouse with four Francis turbine generators, having a unit capacity of 175 MW and a total installed capacity of 700 MW. The nominal water head is 92 m and the total nominal flow rate is about 880 m3/s. The annual average generation capacity of the power station is 2.64 billion kWh, and the annual utilization hours of the installed capacity is 3,772 hours.

Power generated by the hydropower station will be transmitted out by two boost voltages 132 kV and 330 kV, wherein a two-circuit 330 kV transmission line will be connected to the three-point switchyard to be built, and a two-circuit 132 kV transmission line will be connected to the existing Tegina substation

  1. MAJOR SCOPE OF WORKS UNDERTAKEN BY CNEEC 

CNEEC and Sinohydro Corporation constitute “CNEEC-Sinohydro” Consortium to undertake this project. As leader of the consortium, CNEEC undertakes the following scope of works: survey, design and engineering; supply, installation and commissioning of transmission lines, metal structure and M&E; and Owner’s personnel training.
